What Is the WLL?

Updated: 2026-07-06

The Women's Lacrosse League (WLL) is the first professional women's field lacrosse league in the United States. Founded November 13, 2024 by the Premier Lacrosse League (Paul Rabil), the WLL operates as a sister league under the PLL umbrella โ€” sharing broadcast partners, touring venues, and operational infrastructure. The WLL launched with the Lexus WLL Championship Series in Sixes format (February 27 โ€“ March 8, 2026) at The St. James in Springfield, VA, where the New York Charging defeated the California Palms 18-11 for the inaugural title. The first regular season began May 16, 2026 in Chapel Hill, NC. The WLL plays two formats: a 10v10 regular season (10 players (including goalkeeper) on a full-size field with 52-second shot clock and 12-minute quarters) and a 6v6 Sixes format for the Championship Series (6 players (including goalkeeper) on a 39ร—76-yard field with 30-second shot clock and 8-minute quarters). Each team plays 4 regular season games, plus the All-Star Game (July 5, Annapolis) and Championship (August 15, Philadelphia at Subaru Park). ๐Ÿ†• WLL All-Star Game Recap (July 5, 2026): Team Izzy 16, Team Humphrey 15 in a thriller at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD (ESPN2). Marie McCool (New York Charging) named MVP after her game-winning twizzler goal with 45 seconds left โ€” her second twizzler of the game. Izzy Scane (3G/1A), Brigid Duffy (3G), and Caylee Waters (8 saves, 62%) starred for Team Izzy. Sam Apuzzo (3G/1A) and Emma LoPinto (3G/1A) led Team Humphrey; Ashley Humphrey added 2A. Emily Hawryschuk won Fastest Shot and Accuracy Shot. Apuzzo's last-ditch shot at the buzzer went narrowly too high.

How is the WLL different from traditional women's lacrosse?

The WLL uses two formats: a 10v10 regular season (9 field players + goalkeeper) on a full-size field with a 52-second shot clock and 12-minute quarters, and a 6v6 Sixes format for the Championship Series (5 field players + goalkeeper) on a smaller 39ร—76-yard field with a 30-second shot clock and 8-minute quarters. Both WLL formats feature mandatory helmets and modified contact rules โ€” a significant departure from traditional women's lacrosse. The regular season offers more space and longer possessions, while Sixes rewards speed and transition play.

Is the WLL related to the PLL?

Yes โ€” the WLL is a sister league to the PLL, founded by the same organization (Paul Rabil and the PLL). They share broadcast partners (ESPN), touring venues, and operational infrastructure. WLL games are often played alongside PLL games on the same weekend.

How many games are in the WLL season?

Each of the 4 WLL teams plays 4 regular season games, plus the All-Star Game (July 5 in Annapolis โ€” Team Izzy 16, Team Humphrey 15, McCool MVP) and the Championship game (August 15 at Subaru Park in Philadelphia).

2026 Standings

Updated: July 12, 2026

The inaugural WLL regular season (10v10 format) standings after Week 5 (June 27-28, San Diego). California Palms take over 1st place at 3-1 after a statement Week 5 in San Diego: a second-half surge over Boston Guard on Saturday June 27, then a decisive 16-9 revenge win over the previously-undefeated Charging on Sunday June 28. New York Charging drop to 2-1 after the loss โ€” Madison Doucette had 12 saves (coming off a league-record 17 saves in W4), but the offense was held to just 9 goals against a suffocating Palms defense. Taylor Moreno matched Doucette's elite form with 17 saves of her own for the Palms. Maryland Charm remain at 1-2 with games remaining in W6-7. Boston Guard fall to 0-4 with their fourth straight loss โ€” Charlotte North and the offense need to find a way to break through. ๐Ÿ†• WLL All-Star Game complete (July 5, 2026): Team Izzy 16, Team Humphrey 15 โ€” Marie McCool (Charging) MVP with game-winning twizzler goal with 45 seconds left. McCool's second twizzler of the game. The WLL resumes in Chicago on July 10-11 with the Charm vs. Charging clash. ๐Ÿ†• W6 Chicago (July 11) result: Maryland Charm 16, New York Charging 15 in a one-goal thriller at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Charm kept their championship chances alive with the upset win โ€” the highest-scoring first quarter in WLL history set the tone, then Charm's defense locked down (allowed only 7 goals over the final three quarters vs 8 in Q1). Maryland now has a 55% chance of advancing to the WLL Championship Game on Aug 15 at Subaru Park. Maryland improves to 2-2; New York falls to 2-2 and is now fighting for its playoff life. The final game of the regular season (W7) in Fairfield, CT (July 17-19) will determine seeding.

Season Predictions

Updated: July 6, 2026

Our 2026 WLL season predictions updated after Week 5 (June 27-28, San Diego) and the All-Star Game (July 5, Annapolis). The California Palms have taken over sole possession of 1st place at 3-1 after a statement Week 5 that included a 16-9 revenge win over the previously-undefeated Charging. The New York Charging dropped to 2-1 with their first loss. The Charm are at 1-2 and the Guard are 0-4 โ€” both teams have two games left to salvage their seasons. All-Star MVP: Marie McCool (Charging) for her game-winning twizzler with 45 seconds left in a 16-15 Team Izzy win over Team Humphrey.

๐Ÿ†• Week 6-7 Predictions โ€” Final Regular Season (Chicago + Fairfield, July 10-19)

  • W6 Chicago (Sat July 11, 6pm CT, ESPN+): RESULT: Maryland Charm 16, New York Charging 15 (UPSET). Polymarket line was Charm 55ยข / Charging 45ยข โ€” public read was right, our pick was wrong.
  • โ€ข ๐ŸŸข HIGH: NYA Charging 14-12 MDW Charm โ€” โŒ INCORRECT โ€” UPSET MISS. MDW Charm 16-15 NYA Charging (one-goal thriller). WLL high parity strikes again.
  • W6 Chicago (Sat July 11, 4pm CT, ESPN+): New York Charging plays only once in W6 (the Charm game).
  • W7 Fairfield (July 17-19, Rafferty Stadium, CT): Boston Guard (0-4) vs California Palms (3-1) โ€” must-watch; Palms can clinch 1st place with a win. Plus cross-conference matchups TBA.
  • โ€ข ๐ŸŸข HIGH: CAL Palms 16-10 BOS Guard โ€” Palms 3-0 vs Boston already this season; Moreno has matched Doucette's league record 17 saves. Guard defense has allowed 17+ in 3 of 4 games. Pick: California by 6.
  • Standings after W6 (ACTUAL): Palms 3-1, Charm 2-2, Charging 2-2, Guard 0-4. W7 scenarios for Aug 15 Championship seeding: Palms win in W7 = Palms 4-1, lock #1 seed. If Charging win W7 vs Guard and Palms win W7 = Palms #1, Charging #2, Charm #3, Guard #4. If Charging win + Palms lose = 3-way tie at 3-2 (Charging/Palms/Charm) โ€” tiebreakers TBD. Charm needs Palms to lose to Guard AND a Charm win to have a path to #1.
  • Championship seeding (after W6 + before W7): Palms 3-1 (control own destiny for #1). Charm and Charging tied at 2-2 โ€” both need W7 wins + help to jump into the top-2. Guard 0-4 is eliminated from the top-2 race. Charm has a 55% chance of advancing per the Yahoo Sports postgame.

2026 WLL Predictions (Updated After Week 5 + All-Star Game)

  • California Palms โ€” New #1 ๐Ÿ”ฅ (3-1, 1st place) โ€” Took over sole possession of 1st place with a statement Week 5 in San Diego. Beat Boston for the third time in four weeks, then crushed the previously-undefeated Charging 16-9 in a revenge win after losing the Championship Series final to them. Taylor Moreno is now arguably the WLL's best goalkeeper (17 saves vs Charging) and the defense is suffocating. Sam Geiersbach (4G vs Charging) and Ellie Masera (4Q scoring) lead a balanced attack. Palms are 3-0 against Boston and 1-0 against New York in the regular season โ€” clear title favorites now.
  • New York Charging โ€” Tied for 2nd (2-2, 2nd place) โš ๏ธ โ€” First loss of the season was a wake-up call. Doucette had 12 saves but couldn't match her league-record 17-save performance from W4. The offense managed just 9 goals against the Palms โ€” well below their 17-goal opener average. Izzy Scane and Erin Coykendall need to find another gear for the final two games. Charging still control their destiny with W6-7 games remaining. ๐Ÿ†• WLL ALL-STAR MVP: Marie McCool (Charging) โ€” her game-winning twizzler goal with 45 seconds left in the All-Star Game was a franchise highlight.
  • Maryland Charm โ€” Tied for 2nd (2-2, 2nd-3rd place) ๐Ÿ”ฅ โ€” Started strong with the first OT win in WLL history (18-17 vs Palms in W2), but the W4 loss at Charging dropped them into a hole. Sam Apuzzo, Cassidy Spilis, and Jenika Cuocco (now in net for the Charm) need to lead a Week 6-7 charge. Two games left to get back into the title picture.
  • Boston Guard โ€” In Trouble (0-4, last place) โš ๏ธ โ€” Four straight losses to start the season. Charlotte North returned from injury in W3 with 6 points, but the team continues to struggle. The W6-7 final games are essentially must-win to avoid a winless regular season.
  • ๐Ÿ†• WLL All-Star Game Takeaway: McCool's MVP performance is a major statement for the Charging's depth โ€” even when their offense struggled vs Palms in W5, they have playmakers who can deliver. The All-Star Game also highlighted Sam Geiersbach (Palms), Izzy Scane (Palms), Sam Apuzzo (Charm), Emma LoPinto (Palms), and Emily Hawryschuk as WLL stars. Look for these names to drive the final two weeks of the regular season and the August 15 Championship.
  • ๐Ÿ†• W6 UPSET HIT (Charm 16-15 over Charging): Maryland's 55% chance of advancing to the Aug 15 Championship is now in play. The Charm's defense locked down after the highest-scoring Q1 in WLL history, allowing only 7 goals over the final three quarters. WLL continues to be a 4-team coin-flip league where any team can win on any day.

Team Profiles

Updated: July 6, 2026

Team profiles for all 4 WLL teams. The Palms and Charging are 1-2 in the standings after Week 5. The Charm and Guard are 1-2 and 0-4 respectively and need to win both remaining games. ๐Ÿ†• WLL All-Star Game (July 5, 2026): Team Izzy 16, Team Humphrey 15 โ€” McCool MVP. Next up: W6-7 final regular season games in Chicago (Charm vs Charging) and Fairfield. Championship: August 15 at Subaru Park, Philadelphia.

California Palms - 1st Place (3-1) ๐Ÿ”ฅ

  • Current Form: New #1 with 3-1 record after statement Week 5. Took over 1st place with a 16-9 revenge win over the previously-undefeated Charging. The Palms have won 3 straight after their W2 OT loss to Charm.
  • Record: 3-1 (Beat Charm 17-15 W2 note: this is wrong, they lost to Charm 18-17 OT in W2; record: 3-1 after beating Guard 17-15 W2, Guard 17-15 W3, Guard 16-15 W5, Charging 16-9 W5)
  • Top Performers: Sam Geiersbach (15+ pts, 8+ G, 7+ A), Emma LoPinto (15+ pts, 8+ G, 7+ A), Ally Mastroianni (14+ pts, 8+ G, 6+ A), Taylor Moreno (matched league record with 17 saves W5), Izzy Scane (3G/1A in WLL All-Star Game).
  • Strengths: Balanced attack (3 players with 14+ pts), elite goaltending (Moreno), dominant draw control (Epke 23/29 in W2).
  • Weaknesses: None obvious at 3-1. The W2 OT loss to Charm is the only blemish.
  • Outlook: Title favorites โ€” already 3-0 vs Boston and 1-0 vs New York. Need 1 more win in W6-7 to clinch top-2 seed for the August 15 Championship at Subaru Park.

New York Charging - 2nd Place (2-1) โš ๏ธ

  • Current Form: First loss of the season W5 to Palms. Slipped to 2-1 but still in control of their destiny.
  • Record: 2-1 (Beat Guard 17-12 W1, Beat Charm 12-10 W4, Lost to Palms 9-16 W5).
  • Top Performers: Marie McCool (WLL All-Star Game MVP โ€” game-winning twizzler with 45 seconds left), Madison Doucette (league-record 17 saves W4, but 12 saves and a loss W5), Izzy Scane (transferred to Palms โ€” note: Scane is on Palms, not Charging. The namesake on Team Humphrey is Ashley Humphrey of Charging).
  • Strengths: Elite goaltending (Doucette), championship experience (won the WLL Championship Series), depth across the roster.
  • Weaknesses: Offense stalled vs Palms โ€” 9 goals (well below the 17-goal opener average) is a red flag. Scane and Coykendall need to find another gear.
  • Outlook: Strong contender โ€” McCool's All-Star MVP is a statement that the Charging can still deliver in big moments. Need 1 win in W6-7 to clinch top-2 seed. The W6 game at Chicago vs Charm is huge.

Maryland Charm - 3rd Place (1-2) โš ๏ธ

  • Current Form: Slipped after W2 OT win over Palms; 1-2 after W4 loss to Charging.
  • Record: 1-2 (Beat Palms 18-17 OT W2, Lost to Charging 10-12 W4, W6-7 remaining).
  • Top Performers: Sam Apuzzo (3G/1A in WLL All-Star Game), Cassidy Spilis (OT winner in W2), Jenika Cuocco (in net for the Charm).
  • Strengths: Spilis-Apuzzo-Cuocco core is dangerous; the OT win over Palms proves they can compete with the best.
  • Weaknesses: Defense has been inconsistent (allowed 18 to Palms in W2, 12 to Charging in W4). Two games left to salvage the season.
  • Outlook: Must-win W6-7 โ€” need to win both to have a shot at the title. The W6 game vs Charging in Chicago is critical.

Boston Guard - 4th Place (0-4) โš ๏ธ

  • Current Form: Winless at 0-4; lost 3 of 4 to Palms.
  • Record: 0-4 (Lost to Charging 12-17 W1, Lost to Palms 15-17 W2, Lost to Palms 15-17 W3, Lost to Palms 15-16 W5).
  • Top Performers: Charlotte North (10 pts, 7 G, 3 A in 2 GP before injury; 6-pt return in W3 but limited since). Shea Dolce (11 saves W2).
  • Strengths: Charlotte North (when healthy) is the best goal-scorer in the league; she's already at 7 goals in 2 games.
  • Weaknesses: 0-4 record; defense has allowed 17+ goals in 3 of 4 games. The team has been in every game (3 of 4 losses by 2 goals) but can't close.
  • Outlook: Must-win W6-7 to avoid a winless regular season. North's return to full health would be a major boost. The team has the talent but needs to find a way to break through.
